What's your life like normally?
Usually, at this time of year I’m riding to motorcycle events in Europe with various moto brands to interview women who ride. I focus on the motorcycle community from a female perspective for the Motowitch Chronicles Podcast. When I’m not riding to these events I’m at my desk interviewing women remotely, editing an episode or blog post, or riding my motorcycle to create content for brands.
Weekends were often spent riding motorcycles on or off-road, recently it had been more off-road riding.
How has your routine changed in the last few weeks?
My routine is crazy right now. Many people are slowing down during lockdown but I refuse to let this get the better of me and have decided to create my way out of the pandemic. When lockdown set in, all the motorcycle events I was supposed to work at were cancelled. One after another, most of my paid work for the foreseeable future disappeared.
So I chose to work harder, grow my own business and create more. I’m focused even more on the Motowitch Blog and the Motowitch Chronicles Podcast. My side-hustle (Social Media Manager/ Digital Marketing) also picked up due to so many people moving their business online now. I’m helping my clients stay connected to their customers while their physical doors are closed. From 5am - 6pm I work non-stop, across 3 time-zones. Plus, I have three kids, so homeschooling has thrown a very busy spanner in the works.
What are you doing with the time you’d usually spend riding?
Our local laws currently allow motorcycle riding, however I’ve abandoned all group rides which is a bummer as that’s usually where I find new women to interview.
What are you doing that’s providing you comfort or enjoyment at the moment?
When I’m not working I hang out with my family. The kids all learned how to skateboard over the last few weeks so every evening we head out for a family skate and watch the sunset over the bay, and the kids spend a lot of time in the pool.
They have also discovered playing music. I’m teaching them singing and some guitar, and my husband is teaching me some basic motorcycle mechanics as I have big plans for my Sportster XLH1200. We used to take things like that for granted, it’s pretty awesome to see everyone pull together like this.
What aspects of this downtime have you found positive and have they made you want to change anything about your routine once ‘normality’ does resume?
The focus on family time has been amazing. We can’t hang out with our friends in our spare time so reconnecting with them is something I’ll definitely keep in play after this ends.
What’s the first thing you’ll do when restrictions are eased?
First thing on the list is a haircut to tame these locks!
Where is the first place you’ll ride?
Before all this, I was renowned for being the socially awkward loner and either staying home or leaving parties early. That’s going to stop. As soon as I can, I’ll get all the girls from my motorcycle club @morriganmcc and our friends together for a group ride to the beach, where we’ll set up camp for a weekend. Each and every one of those nutters will get a big hug from me! I’m tempted to extend the invitation nationwide, get a shit-ton of bikers together and raise some money for a good cause.
